Manotick was named after the Algonquin word for island. It was founded by Moss Kent Dickinson. He constructed what is now known as Watson’s Mill (later purchased by Harry Watson).
Dickinson House was the first major building in Manotick. It was a bank, general store, telegraph, and post office.
