Welcome to Hintonburg, a subsection of the Downtown Core.
Hintonburg is a mainly residential area, home of the Parkdale Farmer’s Market, plenty of heritage buildings, and some new builds.

Hintonburg was originally part of Nepean when it was first settled in 1826. It was named after Joseph Hinton in 1893. He was a community leader until his death in 1884.

Hintonburg has a population of around 8000 people, and is only about 1.2km in total area. It is mainly working-class people in residential homes.

As Hintonburg is a relatively small area, it only has one community centre. However, all around the area there are plenty of other options - check out our pages on Centretown and The Glebe.
The Hintonburg Community Centre is at 1064 Wellington St W.

Hintonburg ha a few options for pets, including a Global Pet Foods (1204 Wellington St W) and Pet Valu (1224 Wellington St W), and The Barking Barber, a groomer, at 233B Armstrong St.

As a general rule, Hintonburg is a relatively safe area with lots of parks and residential buildings. That being said, it is still downtown, so your children shouldn’t be out late unattended, and a fenced yard will be ideal!

Most of Hintonburg’s shopping opportunities are along Wellington St W. Lots of locally owned stores are in this area!

The Magee House is one of the major landmarks in Hintonburg. Located at 1119 Wellington St W, this house dates back to 1881. It is one of the remaining stone structures in the area!

You’ll want to head down the street to Centretown or venture into Byward Market for the real night life in Ottawa.

Along Wellington St W, Hintonburg offers plenty of restaurants including Stella Luna Gelato, Springroll House, Carben, La Bonita, Tennessy Willems, The Hintonburg Public House, The Third, and TacoLot. For more options, head into Centretown or The Glebe.
